Projectile Points

These projectile points-or arrowheads-were found in 1901, by Pat Brown near the woods on the north side of Grooms Road, west of Grooms Corners. There is archaeological evidence that people were inhabiting the area as far back as 8000 years ago. These were donated by Dorothy G. Peck of Rexford, NY.

"Amanda Jones is my name/America is my nation/Orange is my Dwelling Place and CHRIST is my Salvation/August 26 AD 1819"

Information about Amanda Jones is scarce, but she was likely born about 1808 or 1809, and was the daughter of John B. Jones and Margaret Holmes. Amanda's uncle was James Jones (1765-1850) who was the founder of the hamlet of Jonesville.

Between 1816 and 1820 when Clifton Park was still part of Halfmoon, the area was called Orange Township.

David and Maphlet Schauber built a home in Clifton Park in 1806 where they raised twelve children. The home remained in the family for 180 years and is still one of the oldest homes in Clifton Park and can be found in the northwest corner of the town. Clifton Park did not become its own town until 1828. Prior to that, it was part of Halfmoon.

1819 coverlet made and initialed by Helena Vischer

1819 coverlet made and initialed by Helena Vischer (1805-1890), who was the daughter of Nicholas Vischer and Catherine Van Vranken. In 1802, Nicholas and Catherine built what is now known as King's Crest Farm, which is where the coverlet was likely made. Helena later gave coverlet to her daughter Helen.

Coverlet made c. 1830. Creator unknown. Donated by Barbara Olson who is a descendant of the Bloodgood, Wood, Forte, Vischer, and Warx families of Clifton Park.

Quilt made in 1864 by Catherine Vischer (1842-1924). Its size is 76" x 85".

Quilt made by Minnie Forte Wood (1868-1926)

Quilt made by Minnie Forte Wood (1868-1926). Minnie Forte (1868-1926) was the daughter of Hulda Vischer and Erastus Forte. Its size is 75” x 86”. 

Family Bible

The Bible was signed by Cornelius F. Forte, 1842. Cornelius F. Forte married Alida (Wilbur) Forte. They had two sons together. The Bible also contains loose pages of Betts family records from 1802-1957, & a marriage certificate dated 6 June 1867, for Erastus Forte and Huldah Vischer. It measures 9” x 11 ¼” x 2 ½.”
